Medical Hot Shot Delivery Mitigates Summer Hazards
Sweet summertime! There is so much to love about Texas summers (hear me out!) The barbecues. The grill marks on your veggies. The melty marshmallows. The cool splash in the lake. The long days. The cotton candy sunsets. A little family vacation.
Even during the sweltering heat, we can find ways to be positive about our Texas summers. However, we also have to be realists. Summertime in Texas can present several unique dangers to folks looking to enjoy the sunshine.
Our medical hot shot delivery team brings you some of the most common summertime hazards, and ways to mitigate the dangers.
Allergies
While seasonal allergies are generally not dangerous, they are a summertime hazard. Unfortunately, they aren’t just here for the summer. Many Texans suffer from allergies year-round. Some of the most common allergens include mold, grasses, and weeds. What can you do about allergies? See your doc to find out if you need to be on medication. Even if you don’t, keep your lawn cut short, wash your face, clothes and hair daily, and check the pollen forecast before planning outside activities.
Swim
Seventy percent of drowning deaths in children ages 15 and younger occur between the months of May and August. Drowning can also occur in just a few inches of water. Many times, drowning occurs when there are multiple adults present. These facts are scary, but there are things you can do to keep your kids safe. Physical barriers like locked fences and gates can prevent young ones from stumbling into the water. Additionally, having a specified adult on duty to watch the water is a must. While swimming lessons are not a replacement for the other measures, they can give children confidence in the water.
Food Poisoning
Some of our favorite summertime activities can also be dangerous. Those holiday barbeques and pool parties have a culprit lurking around the snack table. Bacteria grow faster in warmer weather, and we tend to make the food and leave it out for way too long. That makes summer the season of food poisoning. In weather that tops 90 degrees, food can only be left out for an hour before becoming unsafe to eat. When it doubt, throw it out!
Stings
Ants, bees, wasps (oh my!). Summertime is filled with outdoor activities which means we’re susceptible to some of those pesky pests. Most of us are just inconvenienced by stings, but many folks have an underlying allergy that might not be found until it’s too late. If stings are accompanied by dizziness, swelling of the tongue, or nausea, it’s time to head to the hospital.
Driving
Nearly 80% of adults in America are planning a road trip. That’s 208 million Americans hitting the road. They’re dubbing this “Revenge Travel” from the two years we spent cooped up. As you hit the road, though, remember that more people means more potential for accidents. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety says drivers are at higher risks for accidents during the summer season of June through August. How can you stay safe? Buckle up. Slow down. Take breaks.
Summertime is sweet! But there are also unique hazards that we face this time of year. Take into consideration these tips for mitigating hazards from our medical hot shot delivery team.
