Food Safety Starts with Refrigerated Transportation

Anytime is a good time to talk about food safety. But summertime holidays like the 4th of July make it an especially prevalent discussion. Food poisoning rates increase in the summer because warmer weather is a breeding ground for bacteria. All those outdoor summer picnics, barbeques, and family gatherings mean delicious foods…that are exposed to dangerous temperatures that can cause foodborne illnesses.

This is exactly why temperature control is so important during summer.

Dallas Courier Service knows the importance of refrigeration in keeping your favorite summer foods safe.  We maintain refrigerated trucks and vans, as well as cold storage to keep fresh, refrigerated, and frozen foods at just the right temperature to prioritize safety and prevent the spread of foodborne illness. Our couriers are trained in Food Safety, as outlined by federal and local standards. We’re committed to safe handling and secure transport of all your cargo- especially food and beverages.

We’re doing our part in food safety, but how can you do yours?

Know the Danger Zone- The CDC refers to the “Danger Zone” as 40° - 140° F. This is when food is exposed to bacteria growth because it isn’t properly cooled or heated to prevent contamination. The longer food spends in the danger zone, the more likely it is to grow harmful bacteria.

Clean…Everything- Did you know 99% of us don’t properly wash our hands. Ew. Cleaning hands, surfaces, and food properly can prevent illness. Don’t forget, cleaning before and after is the best method.

Separate- Keeping foods separate during shopping and cooking is another great tip for preventing bacteria. Head to the cold food aisles last during your shopping trip, and keep raw meats separate from produce. Also, use different surfaces for prepping raw foods. Then, when you’re finished, clean with a bleach mixture.

Cook to the Proper Temperature- No matter what your grill master next door tells you, it’s impossible to know for certain if foods are cooked properly without taking an internal temperature. Get yourself a food safe thermometer and follow these guidelines by the CDC.

Store Cooked Foods Quickly- Generally speaking, you have about an hour to move foods to the refrigerator. Anything after that, and you’re exposing your party guests to an unwanted parting gift. When it doubt, throw it out!
