Get Your Grill Ready for National Tailgating Day

Dallas Courier, DFW Hot Shot Couriers

It’s tough to contain our excitement about the start of September. First of all, we kick off the month with a long weekend. Score! Labor Day is Monday, September 3rd, and that holiday unofficially ends summer and begins the season of football. Which, if you’re a Texan, is an actual season of the year. Ask anyone.

Of course, our DFW hot shot couriers won’t be kicking their feet up on Labor Day weekend. Instead, we’ll be carrying out your urgent deliveries throughout the Metroplex and beyond, as we do every other holiday weekend. If you find yourself in a bit of a pickle on Labor Day, and need a hand delivering or picking up time sensitive items, your friendly Dallas Courier team is on call, ready to handle the move, with a variety of vehicles and the perfect courier to drive those vehicles.

While Labor Day is an exciting time of the year for us here in North Texas, it wouldn’t be a kick off to football season without recognizing National Tailgating Day. Since 2016, sports fans have officially been celebrating National Tailgating Day on the first Saturday in September. Of course, the act of tailgating has been going on for much longer than that.

We are unsure of the origins of this practice, but we do know that folks gathered to eat and drink before the first ever recorded football game in America. This took place on November 6, 1869, when Rutgers and Princeton University battled in a new sport that took many of its rules from the game of Rugby.

College football was born.

Since then, we’ve been sporting crazy face paint and wearing our team’s jerseys like the outcome of the game depended on us. In order to prep for the excitement of the game, folks gather to eat, drink, and be mostly merry before and after the game, in the process of tailgating.

As you prep for National Tailgating Day and the kickoff to college football, our hot shot couriers in Dallas want you your tailgating game to be on point.

We’re providing a few Dos and Don’ts for your first tailgate on September 1st in honor of National Tailgating Day.

DO rock your team’s jersey. Wearing your team colors shows where your pride lies. Supporting your favorite team and player is welcomed.

DON’T take off your jersey to reveal body paint. Leave your DadBod to the imagination. Here in North Texas, we have sweaty starts to football season. Your body paint likely won’t make it past the first quarter before it’s smeared all over you and others around you.

DO have actual beverages that provide hydration. Temps on a tailgating blacktop can easily be 20 degrees hotter or more. We don’t want anyone dehydrating and passing out during the game.

DON’T drive home if you’ve been drinking alcohol. With so many ride share programs, and so many buddies tailgating with you, there are many other options for getting home safely.

DO fire up the grill. Tailgating food is one of the best parts of tailgating.

DON’T limit yourself to dogs and burgers. Try grilling something fun and new, like veggies or portabella burgers. Or go in an entirely different direction and offer pulled pork nachos or a chips and dip contest.

DO slather on the sunscreen. Just because it’s the official end of summer doesn’t mean it’s the end of sunny days. Protect your skin, even while you’re cheering on your team.

DON’T forget your peepers. Your eyes are susceptible to the sun just like your skin. Get a pair of shades that blocks UV rays and avoid having cataracts or macular degeneration in the future.

National Tailgating Day is September 1st! Have a great time kicking off the start of football season here in Texas, but don’t forget to celebrate responsibly.
