Dallas Reefer Trucking Has Pawsitively Great Tips to Stay Cool

Ok, Texans. It’s only July. We know August is coming. Real talk here: WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?!

This heat wave is intense. So intense that we’re planning to close shop and move to California. Just kidding! We would NEVER move to California…

Despite the hair raising (literally) heat and humidity, Dallas Courier knows how to keep it cool. Our refrigerated vans and trucks offer temperature control solutions for your sensitive items- including foods, antiques, and pharmaceuticals. Leave your time and temperature sensitive items to us! We’ve keep your cold cargo safe and secure. That’s our job.

Your job this summer is important, too. If you’re the proud owner of a furry family member, you’re tasked with keeping your pets cool and safe for the summer. That’s your job.

As the temps rise and we sink into the unbearable depths of another too-hot-Texas-summer, remember these vital tips for safe and secure pet parenting:

Never, ever leave your pet in a car. Not for 5 minutes. Not for 1 minute. Not on Tesla’s Dog Mode. Don’t do it. In case you need a reminder, within 5 minutes, the inside of the car can climb 20 degrees warmer than the outside. On a 100-degree day, that can lead to irreversible damage or death.

It’s not just hot, it’s humid. The heat is killer, but the humidity is the real killer. Animals can’t sweat. They pant to relieve moisture, which evaporates heat from their body. When it’s humid outside, they are unable to cool themselves.

The pavement can be pawsitively hot. Before bringing your pet outside, touch the pavement with the back of your hand. If it’s too hot after a few seconds, it’s too hot for your dog. Limit walks to early morning and nighttime, or spots covered completely by shade.

Check for signs of overheating. Excessive panting, rapid heartrate, vomiting, and weakness can all be signs of overheating in your pet. If you notice these signs, bring your pet into the air conditioning and slowly cool with cold packs or cool water.

Watch for dehydration. Another dangerous ailment for your pet is dehydration. Animals may stop urinating or have dark urine. Their skin will lose elasticity, and they will have sticky gums and dry nose. They may also seem lethargic and even confused. If any of these occur, cool your animal immediately and offer water ASAP.
