I’ve been singing this little jingle in my head for since childhood. And as I looked outside today at our GORGEOUS sun-shiney Texas *winter* day, it suddenly began to ring in my head.
I began to wonder where this little tune was from. I had a few guesses – Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood, Reading Rainbow or Mickey Mouse. A little Googling and survey says… Mickey Mouse! And I had the lyrics wrong in my head (but after 30 years of singing it my way, it ain’t changing, folks!). The correct line is;
“The mail must go through. No matter if it rains or snows – the mail must go through!”
The original way is actually better in this instance. Why? Because it highlights the necessity of delivery. Back before emails and iphones, the mail was critical to communication. IT HAD TO GO THROUGH. Sleet, sun, rain, snow. The weather didn’t matter – it had to get through.
